<title>Impact Hold Whitecaps to Draw; Reds Win Voyageurs Cup</title>
<link>http://www.gotorontofc.com/Article1052.html</link>
<description>by James Oliphant
GoTorontoFC.com

Toronto FC clinched its second consecutive Nutrilite Canadian Championship on Wednesday, despite not being involved in the title-deciding match.

Vancouver Whitecaps squandered a second-half lead and could only manage a 1-1 draw against Montreal Impact. The result eliminates Vancouver from Voyageurs Cup contention and essentially turns next Wednesday's tournament-closing match in Toronto into a friendly.

After drawing their two home matches in the NCC - including a 0-0 result against Toronto on May 19th - the Whitecaps needed wins in both of their road games to surpass Toronto. TFC beat Montreal twice to take 7 points from their first three games.

The draw in Montreal leaves Vancouver with just 3 points in the tournament, and with only one game remaining they will not be able to catch Toronto.

The Voyageurs Cup will be presented to Toronto FC for the second year in a row at BMO Field on June 2.

Toronto's triumph qualifies them for the CONCACAF Champions League Preliminary Round, where they will now face ex-Reds midfielder Amado Guevara and his CD Motagua teammates. The first leg of that tie will be played in Toronto between July 27th and 29th, with the second leg taking place in Tegucigalpa, Honduras between August 3rd and 5th.</description>

<title>Rookie Herold Retires Over Health Concerns</title>
<link>http://www.gotorontofc.com/Article1051.html</link>
<description>Press Release

Retirements are often a time of reflection on a professional’s long and storied career. It is rare the word “retirement” is attached to a player at such a young age, but such is the case with Toronto FC defender Zachary Herold. The club announced Monday that the 17 year old Generation Adidas product has had to retire from the game of soccer.

Herold suffers from the condition Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) – which causes abnormal thickening of a part of the heart muscle. With this condition, under strenuous exercise, there is a risk of developing a potentially fatal irregular heart rhythm, or arrhythmia. Unfortunately the only way to reduce this risk is to put significant life-long restrictions on exercise.

<description>Dwayne De Rosario(Photo: DuctTape)Press Release

Toronto FC announced Monday captain Dwayne De Rosario was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week 5 of the 2010 MLS season. De Rosario supplied a goal and an assist in Toronto FC’s 2-0 victory over Seattle Sounders FC on Sunday, April 25 at BMO Field.

The midfielder capitalized on a Sounders defensive error to gain possession inside the area and score the game-winning goal for the home side. In the 58th minute, Toronto forward Chad Barrett attempted to play a ball through the Sounders defense to De Rosario running to the top of the penalty box. The ball took a deflection, and as Seattle midfielder Osvaldo Alonso tried to clear it, De Rosario stripped him of the ball and blasted a shot past Seattle goalkeeper Kasey Keller.

Leading 1-0 in the 76th minute, De Rosario sprinted up the right side of the field to receive a through ball from Dan Gargan. Upon reaching the top of the 18-yard box, De Rosario slips the ball square to O’Brian White, who with one touch placed a shot around Keller for Toronto’s second goal.
