Montreal Impact president Joey Saputo and MLS Commissioner Don Garber announced Friday that Major League Soccer will welcome Montreal as its 19th team in 2012.
After struggling over the last couple years to join the league, the Impact will now become Canada's third MLS franchise. Toronto FC is in its fourth season while Vancouver is set to debut next year.
Montreal currently plays in the USSF D2 Pro League and was one of the clubs to leave the United Soccer Leagues after dissent between the league and club owners.

No, it's not an April Fool's joke.
Major League Soccer today announced significant changes to the structure of the Designated Player rule which will allow teams to sign as many as 3 players whose salaries exceed the league maximum.
Effective immediately, the rule also drops the salary cap hit for a DP to $335,000, down from $415,000 last year. Teams can also use their allocation cash to bring that cap hit down to as little as $150,000.
